How To Prepare Your Home For Newborn Photos

When you’re 10 days postpartum with a new baby, I totally get the last thing you want to do is clean your home (this is one of the reasons why I now have a studio for newborn sessions!). If you want newborn photos in your home though, here are some quick tips that can go a long way!

How To Prepare Your Home For Newborn Photos

Open the shades and turn off the lights. Let the natural light in and turn off all those yellow overhead lights that cast unflattering shadows on your faces.

Declutter spaces we’ll photograph in. You don’t have to go crazy cleaning every inch of your house! Just declutter the spaces we’ll photograph in. Often this is in the nursery and on the main bedroom bed and bedside tables.

Unplug and hide cords. It helps to unplug and hide cords, monitors, noise machines, humidifiers, etc.

Put clean, neutral bedspreads on the master bed and crib. White and cream comforters photograph great, and relatively neutral or light patterned bedspreads in the crib are great! It’s also helpful to have a neutral, textured blanket on hand too.

Work with your photographer. I send all my clients a prep guide with lots of tips and welcome them to send me images of their home so I can give suggestions for the best rooms to take photos in and ideal time of day for our session!

Most of all, don’t stress! I’m used to walking into all types of environments and creating beautiful images without judgement!
