My active, opinionated three year old daughter who looks more and more like a girl and less like a baby/toddler every day, is a continuous reminder how fleeting the first few years of parenthood are (even though it doesn’t feel like it in the moment). You think you’ll remember every little detail: their gummy smile and big eyes, the dimples on their hands, and their chubby feet and leg rolls – but trust me from experience, the memories fade unless you capture them.
I feel so passionately about photographing babies in that first year especially. If you’re pregnant or have a newborn at home and looking to plan ahead, here’s when I would look to schedule a photo session with my infant:
Newborn (Ideally 10-14 days old) – Sleepy & brand new. They change so fast and after just a few weeks that sleepy newborn baby becomes an alert, wide eyed infant.
Three Months Old – Still teeny tiny but they have filled out a bit by this point and are usually super smiley!! Tummy time shots are some of my favorites during this age.
Seven or Eight Months Old – Sitting but not yet crawling, this is quite the sweet spot for photos in the first year! They have changed so much from 0-3 months old but still have their baby look.
One Year – Such a big milestone to capture! Crawling, pulling up to stand, and maybe even taking first steps! I even love throwing them in a high chair and getting some classic cake smash photos with a modern twist!
