Natural Newborn Photography & Baby Led Posing

There are so many different types of newborn photography, and each photographer takes a different approach to photographing babies and their families.

I specialize in and prefer natural newborn photography and baby led posing.

For me, natural newborn photography allows me to create simple, beautiful images by keeping backgrounds clean and the focus on your sweet babe. I love minimalistic imagery and avoid the use of excessive props so your sessions don’t feel unnatural or dated.

I even offer wraps, onesies, simple outfits and blankets to achieve a timeless look and allow my clients to achieve the same results they can expect of my work.

Natural newborn photography means allowing parents to snuggle and hold baby in a way that you would in real life. It’s real, organic and gentle.

When photographing baby alone, I lay them down and allow them to move themselves into a position that they feel comfortable in. While I may make slight adjustments to ensure the ideal composition and a pretty image, the pose is led by the baby and what makes them happy.

The results are natural, relaxed images that capture all the sweet details of your newborn in a way that still looks like themselves.

It can be really stressful for all involved spending tons of time trying to get your baby to sleep, hold the perfect pose or squeeze into a basket. And in the end, the images don’t feel very real anyway! I love capturing a baby in a more natural, authentic state – even getting some awake photos!

Caroline Winn is a Boston family photographer specializing in maternity, newborn, and family photography. She serves the greater Boston area (including Lexington, Arlington, Winchester, Melrose, Concord, Lincoln and more) and Cape Cod in the summertime.
